Experienced executives hired to launch new Florida political news operation

City & State, the leading media brand dedicated to covering local and state politics, policy and personalities, announced today the addition of Matthew Gull as Publisher and James Rosica as Editor-in-Chief to lead the expansion of City & State Florida across the state.

Since acquiring The News Service of Florida earlier this year, GovExec has been working with the local team and leadership team at City & State to create a plan to bring the award-winning news service to more readers across the state. The company is excited to announce that the City & State brand will launch in the Florida market this summer. Gull will oversee the business development of the award-winning news, commentary and analysis associated with the City & State brand, translating it to fit the Florida market. He will also lead the growth and enhancement of The News Service of Florida products as they continue alongside this new offering. News Service of Florida will continue to provide breaking news from the Capitol in Tallahassee for its paid subscribers while City & State Florida will offer readers free political coverage from around the state through its daily email, website and monthly magazine, and will eventually hold policy events.

Matthew Gull will spearhead the launch of City & State Florida at a June event to debut the Florida Power 100 list and our must-read morning email First Read. Gull, an accomplished 20 year veteran of Print and Digital media joins Govexec to lead City and State Florida.  Having previously launched 5 brands focused on Florida, his unique skill set is a perfect marriage to City and State ensuring it becomes the ‘go to’ destination for insight into the politics, policies and personality shaping this great state.

Rosica will chart the editorial direction for City & State Florida, starting with the launch of First Read, a must-read morning round-up of Florida political news, set to hit inboxes in May. Rosica most recently was news director of the Tallahassee Democrat/Tallahassee.com and coordinator of the USA TODAY Network's Florida Capital Bureau. Before that, he was senior editor for the Florida Politics website and the statehouse reporter for the Tampa Tribune. Starting in 2011, he covered three consecutive legislative sessions in Florida for The Associated Press.
